Faith “Healing” Doesn’t Always Work

Some people do very stupid things in the name of Christ.  Really, you’re sure that God wants you to dab some olive oil on your poor sick kid and say a prayer for him and yet not take him to see a doctor?  My goodness.  The gospel is that Jesus came to heal us from our spiritual sickness, to resurrect us from our deadness, to remove our spiritual blindness.  We’ll have to deal with suffering until the kingdom of God arrives in its fullness.  (2 Cor 11:22-29; Heb 11:25-28; 1 Peter 4:13; Heb 10:32; Phil 3:10; Rom 8:18).  Why would God answer our selfish prayer for a supernatural healing when He has already provided the means for a natural healing?  Is Jesus not the Lord OF Science just as He is Lord OVER Science?  Surely, working within the bounds of His creation doesn’t rob Him of the glory He would get whether that kid was healed through natural or supernatural means!  This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pray, or even anoint with oil, but where does James 5:14-15 exclude doctors?  How do you know that God isn’t going to answer your prayer through a doctor?

Do you want to be like Jesus, or do you just “like” Jesus?

Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.  (1 John 2:4-6)

Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam!

Unless you’re a masochist, you’ll want to be careful when you’re watching this. Be ready to hit that pause button if you can’t handle it.

It boggles my mind that this is what American Christianity has come to. If you need something remedial now, watch this.

I wonder if anyone would agree with me that making something like this is inherently sinful. It just seems like such a mockery of everything that Christianity is about. Maybe it’s just her voice.

I suppose this is a good place for a warning. Just think: Hell is going to be worse than listening to her voice for eternity. Repent!

(via Disturbed Christians)

EPIC FAIL: “Full Armor Sequence Complete”

I think that some things that Christians do mock Christianity worse than atheists do.

“I think it’s very easy [to become a Christian.]” (Of course this video is addressed to rich American Christians)

Okay. So why did Jesus say, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:25-27)

Spurgeon said, ‘But mark, that is the work of the Spirit. Some preachers will tell their people, “Believe, only believe.” Yes, it is right they should tell them so; but they should remember it is also right to tell them that even this must be the work of the Spirit; for though we say, “Only believe,” that is the greatest only in the world; and what some men say is so easy is just what those who want to believe find to be the hardest thing in all the world. It is simple enough for a man that hath the Spirit in him to believe, when he hath the written Word before him and the witness of the Spirit in him; that is easy enough. But for the poor, tried sinner, who cannot see anything in the Word of God but thunder and threatening—for him to believe—ah my brethren, it is not such a little matter as some make it to be. It needs the fullness of the power of God’s Spirit to bring any man to such faith as that.’

Biblical, Polygamous Dating

Okay, this guy actually “evangelizes” out at my University (which I’m graduating from in June!). He’s one of the guys who holds up a sign that says, “Questions about the Bible? I’ll try to answer.” Oh, dear. We need some Christians out there who can clarify and make up for the damage he does. He’s a unitarian and so he doesn’t believe Jesus is God (he explained to me that Jesus is just the ‘phone’ we use to talk to God), he believes that polygamy is just as legitimate as monogamy (as you’ll see in this video), and he believes that the unforgivable sin is to refuse to believe anything in the Bible. I suppose that last one is the closest to the truth — if you deny your sin, you will deny your need for a Savior.  Anyway, this is probably one of the most asinine videos he’s posted. It’s about his first polygamous date with him and his wife and another woman. I think this video alone can help to show the utter foolishness of polygyny:

I mean, seriously, what kind of person do you think is going to want to be part of a polygamous relationship? Did this girl that they went on a date with even have a clue what she had gotten herself into?  Maybe she just desperately needed someone to talk to, to give her counsel.  Maybe “the heretic” (his own title for himself) didn’t really make his intentions clear.  Insanity.  What if this woman he’s talking about sees this video?

If God is all-powerful, why does evil exist?

God can’t save with the NIV.

Okay. I’m not a big fan of the NIV, either. But really? A “perverted” text? This guy reminds me of some of the guys who held signs at my University’s campus. Plus, I’d imagine this guy is KJV-only, which is absurd.
